May’s topic is spring cleaning. First, we’ll be talking about shaving the vagina, or more accurately, shaving the pubic hair around the vulva.

Here are some PG-rated tips for you to follow.

5 Tips for Shaving Your Pubic Hair

  1. Start out clean. Wash the external area thoroughly with warm water and mild soap. Avoid getting soap inside the vagina.
  2. Trim the hair first. Use scissors or electric clippers to shorten the hair before shaving. Be careful around sensitive skin.
  3. Use a warm washcloth. If it’s been a couple of hours since your shower, hold a warm washcloth against the area for a few minutes to soften the hair. Make sure everything is warm and moist.
  4. Apply shaving gel or cream. Spread a gentle, fragrance-free shaving product over the area to help the razor glide smoothly.
  5. Use a fresh razor. Shave gently in the direction of hair growth. Going against the grain can increase irritation and ingrown hairs, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Be really careful not to nick the labia or any other tender, sensitive parts. Avoid shaving delicate inner vulvar tissue.

Shaving, Waxing, or Keeping It Natural?

Whether you prefer hairy or bare genitals, shaving is one way to take your spring cleaning to the next level.

Some ideas to make it fun are to go to a spa for it, have your lover do it, or find a platonic friend who will help you out.

I personally like trimmed hair on my partner. Not so long it gets stuck in your teeth, but long enough so you know you are with a mature person.

Yes, I have had a hair get in my teeth, and one time I even had a hair get caught on my tongue ring!

My Personal Experience With Pubic Hair Removal

I personally wax because people believe it’s cleaner, and sometimes I have to help my clients with skills and techniques that involve showing my vagina.

Of course, removing pubic hair isn’t necessary for cleanliness. Keeping the area clean matters more than whether you shave, wax, or leave the hair natural.

I’ve tried to shave, and no matter how careful I am with the process, I always get ingrown hairs. That is the worst!

Also, shaving does not last as long as waxing.

Waxing does hurt, but it’s worth the result for me and only has to be done every four to six weeks.

Whatever your preference, the most important thing is feeling comfortable with your body.
